Holidaymakers name countries with the ‘nicest’ people – and there’s common theme

Travel fans, people who’ve lived in many different countries and lovers have shared their thoughts on .

Certain towns and cities in the UK have reputations for being friendly and welcoming, and this trend typically extends to countries as a whole. For example, are renowned for their polite and affable natures, while is also commonly regarded as a kind and cordial destination.

On popular social media platform , one inquisitive soul posted a question simply asking: “Which country that you’ve visited has the nicest people?”

It was quickly flooded with more than 3.4,000 replies from experienced travellers and wanderlust lovers keen to share their thoughts. Many countries made the cut but one theme was particularly common: there’s good people everywhere.

In a world so commonly divided, with often frightening, depressing and dark events dominating news cycles, people so eager to share their experiences with good people all over the planet clearly struck a chord.

One person declared: “I have travelled to 61 countries and all countries have nice people. People who will help you if you need it or are happy you want to see their country and learn about their culture. I think coming across nice people is also in your hands. Be respectful for where you are.”

Another agreed: “I’ve also been to about 60/70 countries and I would concur with you. Every place has friendly people. We just tend to notice it more when we travel because we interact with more people.”

And a third added: “In my experience, there’s been genuinely good, kind people everywhere I’ve ever been. As long as you’re being polite and respectful, people will generally return the energy you give.

“I know there’s a lot of horror going on right now but that’s a beautiful thing to remember about the world. People are, for the most part, pretty darn good.”

Other countries praised for kindness

Many, many countries made the cut – suggesting other posters’ assertions that there’s good everywhere is likely to be true.

Unsurprisingly, lots of users lauded . One person summed it up with: “I found that the stereotype that Canadians are the nicest people to be completely true!”

Ireland was also highlighted. One person simply said: “Ireland!!!! By far”. Another agreed: “Came here to say that. When I was in Dublin I couldn’t sleep with the time change, so I went to the pub in my hotel. Within 10 minutes a whole group of people were talking to me and we all sat around the bar talking. Great time”.

Countries which may be unexpected to some were also mentioned. Another user said: “Despite their bad reputation, I had a good experience in the USA.”

Another agreed: “Americans are super friendly and chatty”, while someone else said: “Americans are very friendly and chatty. Especially if you get outside the cities. Rural and suburb areas, everyone loves to chat.”

In response, an American commented: “This makes me happy. Even though the s*** we are going through now, I am glad to see this.”

Other countries listed included Scotland, South Africa, Madagascar, Vietnam, Malaysia, Finland, Sri Lanka, Botswana and many more.
