Moment Russia is dealt huge blow as thermobaric munition depot explodes in Ukraine attack

Spectacular footage has captured the moment a massive Russian ammunition depot is obliterated by Ukrainian forces in another hefty blow for . The strike, which took place overnight on Thursday, targeted a storage facility for thermobaric munitions in the Russian-occupied Donetsk region, according to ’s General Staff.

The depot was located near the city of Selydove. ’s forces also struck three additional key Russian targets, including the Ilsky oil refinery in ’s Krasnodar Krai, a crucial supplier to the Kremlin’s war effort. The statement added: “The results of the attack are still being clarified.” Selydove, located in ’s Pokrovsk district, remains under Russian occupation as fighting in the region intensifies.

Thermobaric weapons, also known as vacuum bombs, create enormous explosions by using oxygen from the surrounding air. The fuel-air mixture ignites mid-air, unleashing a powerful blast wave and extreme heat capable of penetrating fortified bunkers.

These weapons are significantly more destructive than conventional high-explosive shells.

Their vacuum effect can rupture lungs and internal organs, while the extreme heat can ignite devastating fires, reducing entire buildings to rubble.

Their indiscriminate nature has sparked widespread condemnation from the international community.

While they are not explicitly banned under international law, their use against civilians or in indiscriminate attacks could violate the Geneva Conventions and other humanitarian laws.

Some organisations, including Human Rights Watch, have condemned their use due to their devastating effects, particularly in populated areas, but no global treaty specifically prohibits them.

Since launching its full-scale invasion of , has lost more than 874,000 troops, according to ’s General Staff.

In the past 24 hours alone, Moscow’s forces reportedly suffered another 1,060 casualties.
