An American woman living in the UK is baffled after finding out something many British people do.

Lisa Dollan moved to , West Yorkshire from the and uses her social media platforms to share differences she has noticed between British people and Americans. Through sharing her experiences, she has gained more than one million followers on and an incredible 51.6 million likes.

The American , whose husband is from the UK, recently posted a clip revealing her confusion after finding out that British people randomly go on , the UK’s number one property website for properties to rent or for sale. Many Brits who saw her post admitted they do this and the main reason is to be nosy.

In her video Lisa recalled talking to a British friend who told her she had seen someone’s house on Rightmove and went on to speak about the property. Lisa, puzzled by why her friend was on the site, asked if they were moving house and the friend said they “just casually look at Rightmove” and do this regularly.

The American expat asked her friend how often she goes on Rightmove and she said: “I don’t know, like every other day (or) every day.” Lisa exclaimed: “Why? Where are you going?”

Her friend told her she isn’t going anywhere and that she just checks out the website randomly. Lisa then had a conversation with her husband who told her that their neighbours are moving away and she asked him if he had seen them on a walk, assuming he had spoken to them directly, but he told her that he had found out through Rightmove.

Lisa asked her husband why he was on Rightmove and he said to her “everyone’s on Rightmove” but she couldn’t believe this. She continued: “This is the second British person in my life saying that they just randomly look at houses that are for sale on Rightmove or a house that has been bought.”

Further expressing her confusion, the expat said: “Why are you all looking at houses? I don’t get it, let me know.”

Lisa’s video, uploaded on February 16, has garnered 867,600 views, 63,400 likes and more than 8,600 comments. Many users did tell her why Brits are on Rightmove to look at houses.

Where yall going

The top comment reads: “Brit here and love Rightmove. It’s a legal way to be nosey lol. Also go on Rightmove when someone moves to see how much they paid/sold their house for lol.”

A second user referenced a childhood memory when they said: “Looking on Rightmove at houses you can’t afford is the adult equivalent of circling all the toys you want in the Argos catalogue.

A third said: “We’re all looking on Rightmove. I usually give myself a £20mil budget when I have 20p in the bank so I know what to expect when I win the lotto.”

Numerous people admitted they go on Rightmove to be nosy or look at their dream homes. One said: “If a house is for sale on my street, I’m straight onto Rightmove to look inside.”

This was echoed by someone else: “Any time a house near me goes up for sale I have a little snoop at their house on Rightmove, even better if it has a floor plan.”
