A lorry driver has died after reports of a crash between a truck and a car on the M6 last night.
West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed the death, according to . Police remain at the scene and motorists have been warned that the southbound carriageway between J16 and J15 is likely to be closed “for a number of hours”.
An ambulance, paramedic officer, BASICS emergency doctor, MERIT trauma doctor, critical care paramedic, and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car were all dispatched to the scene.
A spokeswoman said: “On arrival crews found two men. The first patient, the driver of the lorry, was found in a critical condition and sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.
“The second patient, the driver of the car, was treated for potentially serious injuries before being conveyed under blue lights and sirens to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.”

‘Serious crash’ sparks rush hour chaos with road closed ‘all day’
The M6 was closed this morning after a “serious” crash overnight in North Staffordshire.
Police remain at the scene and motorists have been warned that the southbound carriageway between J16 and J15 is likely to be closed “for a number of hours”.
Emergency services were called to the incident at around 10:20 pm last night, with the northbound carriageway re-opening two hours later.
A spokesperson for National Highways said at 5 am: “The M6 in Staffordshire remains closed southbound between J16 near Crewe and J15 near Stoke-on-Trent due following a serious collision that occurred overnight.
“This is a protracted police closure and the carriageway will remain closed throughout the day for ongoing investigation work at the scene.”

A National Highways spokesperson said: “The M6 in Staffordshire is closed southbound between Junction 16 near Crewe and Junction 15 near Stoke-on-Trent due to a serious collision.
“This is a protracted police closure and the carriageway is unlikely to reopen before the morning peak period. The closure is expected to remain ongoing for several hours.
“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
