If your Slack workspace isn’t working today, you’re not alone.
An hourslong Slack outage affected users across the country Wednesday, beginning around 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time — undoubtedly putting a damper on the 700 million messages sent daily using the platform.
Upon opening up the software, some users may have seen a message from Slack that acknowledges that they’re “having trouble loading your workspace.”
The message then suggests that users try restarting the program, “troubleshooting connection issues” or checking in with the Slack service.
A website that provides details about the status of the software showed that it was having problems with login, messaging, connectivity, Apps/Integrations/APIs and workflows. The “Slack Status” site said there were no issues with notifications, search, huddles, files, Workspace/Org Administration and Canvases — all of which do not really matter when the workspace won’t load for some users.
Slack has been providing updates about the incident about every 30 minutes or so on the Slack Status site. Slack told HuffPost the company is investigating the issue and said to monitor status.slack.com for additional updates.
“We’re investigating reports of trouble connecting or loading Slack, we’ll provide another update once we have news to share,” the communication platform’s first update said.
At around 1:30 p.m., Slack added, “We’re still actively investigating this issue, but we don’t have any new information to share at this time. Thanks for sticking with us as we continue to work towards a fix. We’ll keep you posted as soon we have an update.”

It’s unclear how many users were affected or when Slack will return to normal, but users can rely on email, Google Chat or Microsoft Teams if available.
Slack reports having 4 million “Slack Connect users working directly with external teams each week” and 3 million “Daily Workflows.” It also says it has more than 200,000 paid users in more than 150 countries and that 77 of the Fortune 100 companies use the platform.
