Cole Palmer’s great uncle starred on Top of the Pops with No. 1 UK single

star has become one of the most recognisable sportsmen in the country over the last couple of years thanks to his endeavours for the Blues. But it turns out there was already a famous face in his family in the form of his great uncle St Clair Palmer.

St Clair Palmer was in the eight-piece British soul group Sweet Sensation, who had a No. 1 hit with Sad Sweet Dreamer in 1974.

The band performed the song on Top of The Pops and even attempted to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest three years later with a different track.

Palmer was told about his great uncle’s musical success during an on TNT Sports as the DJ and presenter pulled out a vinyl.

“This record is from a band called Sweet Sensation,” Allstar began. “Your great uncle was in this band. They had a No. 1 in the 1970s. This vinyl here went No. 1 here in the UK.”

Palmer appeared to be stunned by the news as he responded: “I didn’t even know that.” The attacking genius was then shown a video of Sweet Sensation’s performance on Top of The Pops but explained that he couldn’t identify his uncle because “he’s too young there”.

Palmer then added: “Obviously people in my family have talked about. But I’ve never listened to it or researched it.”

Palmer previously discussed his musical tastes during a quickfire interview with as he explained he likes to listen to Choppa by Byron Messia, Lil Baby and Rvssian.

But he had his attention firmly fixed on football on Tuesday night as he was in action for during their at Stamford Bridge.

Levi Colwill headed in a third just before the interval, with Marc Cucurella finishing the game off with a fourth goal late on.

Despite ’s convincing win, Palmer failed to score or assist for the seventh game in a row. And after the match, Blues boss said: “At this moment, Cole struggles to score or struggles to do the right thing, but he’s happy. He knows this is something normal.

“It is lucky because Cole had time in a big club with big players and knows players go through moments like this. He’s reacting perfectly, he is laughing. He has to enjoy football.”
