This number shows that users are more interested in making a profit than simply getting rid of unwanted items – although there were still 13,000 free listings live.
A spokesperson from Gumtree noted that vehicles, electronics and clothes are consistently popular items on the site. Additionally, buyers frequently purchase books and shoes, while art pieces, luxury watches and designer furniture were identified as the most unusual second-hand items considered for purchase.
The research, conducted by OnePoll.com, found that Brits sell an average of two items online each month – the same number they also buy.
The spokesperson from Gumtree added: “We always find it interesting to see what’s hot and what’s not when it comes to our listings. People clearly get a real kick out of second hand shopping, not only to get something shifted, but also to pick up something for a bargain price.”
