See Savannah’s kids’ ‘awesome’ interview with her about faith and new book: ‘That was perfect’

Savannah Guthrie’s kids, Vale, 10, and Charley, 8, are big fans of her new children’s book, “Mostly What God Does is Love You.”

The novel, which comes out Feb. 25, teaches kids about God’s love and grace. It’s also the children’s version of Savannah’s 2024 book titled, “Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere.”

On TODAY, Vale interviewed her mom about the novel and learned how Savannah’s special relationship with God began.

“I do remember talking to God when I was your age. I remember saying my prayers. I remember asking to not get a bad grade on a test or asking for a certain present for Christmas,” Savannah shared with her daughter.

“But I also remember talking to God about my fears and my worries, and I guess that’s why it’s so important for me to tell you and Charley about him because I’m hoping you’re having a conversation, too,” she continued.

Vale later asked her mom why it’s important for Savannah to teach her kids about God. She responded that “God has always been a really big part of my life” and has helped her out at times when she felt alone.

“I could always call God, and so I feel like, if I can tell you about the God that I know that loves you so much, that you’ll carry him in your heart just the way I have all my life, and that that will always be with you,” Savannah said.

Throughout the interview, clips played of Vale and Charley reading their mother’s book. Charley was also seen waving to his mom on the monitor and helping Vale put her mic on.

During the interview, Vale also asked her mom how she wants adults and kids alike to feel when reading her book.

“I hope they feel calm and reassurance and peace, because to me, that’s who God is. In the end, the message is really simple. God is love. He’s here to love us, and when we’re filled up with that love, we can’t help but start spreading it around,” she said.

Savannah then gave Vale a big hug for conducting an “awesome interview” and she smiled over to Charley, who watched behind the scenes.
