The Queen has revealed she has recently adopted an eight-week-old rescue puppy.
, who visited Canterbury in Kent for a royal engagement today, said the pup is “a bit of everything” and looks like a mole. This, she added, inspired the name of the new dog – Moley. It comes after the death of her
‘s wife is the patron of the rescue centre Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. It is not yet clear whether Moley was bought or adopted from a rescue centre.
The Queen revealed the happy news as she affectionately stroked a guide dog while meeting the partially-sighted museum group in the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge located in the centre of Canterbury’s bustling high street.
Bending down to stroke the lively guide dog, the Queen remarked about how “affectionate” they are and told its owner: “I’ve just got a new puppy, he’s eight-weeks old.”

Asked what breed he is, she replied: “You may well ask, a bit of everything. Its a rescue dog. It’s called Moley – it looks just like a mole.”
had visited The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge to unveil an iconic new statue in Canterbury. Honouring the life and legacy of Aphra Behn, the first full-time professional woman writer in the English language, the statue was unveiled at the centre.
Behn, who was born in Canterbury, is regarded among the most influential dramatists of the late 17th century, celebrated for her poetry and novels.
Later in the day, the Queen is set to visit an Aphra Behn workshop with children from St Peter’s Primary School and Her Majesty will also be invited to view the first edition of Behn’s novel Oroonoko and meet its donor, Anna Astin.
Her Majesty was left heartbroken when Beth, a Jack Russell Terrier, died last November, and when the , he told TV presenter – who is an ambassador for the world-famous animal rescue centre in London – that they planned to get a new dog.

Last November, posted on social media and late pet, Beth.
The Palace wrote: “A sad farewell to Beth, the Queen’s much-loved companion from @Battersea-Dogs and Cats Home who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties or curled up by the fire.”
It is understood Beth had an untreatable tumour and had to be put down.
Beth and another terrier, Bluebell, were adopted by Camilla from the Battersea Dogs And Cats Home in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Beth, along with Bluebell, was so loved by the Queen that , with goldwork motifs of the two dogs embroidered into the historic dress.
