A woman has shared a “middle seat ” that can almost guarantee that you and your seatmate will have a whole row to yourself, so you don’t have to awkwardly touch knees with a stranger.
There’s nothing worse than being squashed on a , so it’s advisable that passengers pre-book seats so they can choose where they’re going to be.
It’s not as bad if you’re in a group of three, for example, and you know the people whose space you’re accidentally invading – but it can get a bit uncomfortable if there’s somebody you don’t know sitting between you.
But @holidayextras has shared a “hack” to potentially give you “extra leg room”. However, some have labelled it “more of a gamble”.
Of course, if you try this, there are no guarantees, as you may come across a plucky solo traveller who isn’t bothered about sitting in the middle seat. But it’s worth giving it a go.
…
She referred to the hack as “such a game-changer,” especially if you’re “travelling with one other person”.
If you “hate your space being invaded,” which is mostly unavoidable on a plane, she said: “When you get to the point where you book your seat, book the window and the aisle.
“And unless the plane is really busy, no one’s going to book that middle seat,” she claimed, “so you’re actually getting three seats for the price of two”.
But, it may be bad news for some travellers trying this hack out, as in the comments, some people said they purposefully look for random middle seats and book them to be awkward.
One said: “I booked the middle seat between two friends, and they asked if I’d move so they could sit next to each other. Er…no!”
…
Someone admitted: “Ha ha, I literally look for those middle seats to be weird and make people uncomfortable”.
Another said that the “airline may just randomly assign it to someone,” especially if they’ve booked a flight for just them.
A TikToker penned: “No cos a couple did that, and on a full flight, I got randomly allocated the middle seat, and neither of them wanted to move”.
A frequent flier claimed that they’d “never been on a plane with empty seats”.
Somebody labelled people who try this hack as “incredibly selfish”.
