BBC Call the Midwife’s Megan Cusack confirms show exit after character’s absence

Megan Cusack, known for her role as Nancy Corrigan on Call the Midwife, has finally spoken out about her character’s noticeable absence, revealing her departure from the beloved series.

Cusack made her entrance in the show’s tenth season as midwife Nancy Corrigan, stepping in for Valerie Dyer, who departed Nonnatus House for a new opportunity at the Hope Clinic in South Africa.

The character of Nancy was last seen being romantically swept off her feet by Roger Noble, a pharmaceutical salesman, culminating in an engagement during last year’s Christmas Special.

Amidst these developments, Nancy also received an enticing job offer from a rural hospital, which she chose to accept, leading her to Netherditch hospital and away from the central storyline.

As a result, Nancy has been conspicuously missing from the current season 14, now broadcasting on One, leaving fans curious about her whereabouts.

Viewers were given a glimmer of hope when the conclusion of Sunday’s episode (February 23) hinted at Nancy and Roger’s return to Poplar, just in time for their impending wedding.

Despite this brief reappearance, Megan Cusack has confirmed that her time on Call the Midwife is coming to an end as she seeks to explore more opportunities in theatre.

In a candid interview with , Cusack shared her thoughts: “Sometimes, you’ve got to step out of your comfort zone to grow. I’ve learnt so much, but I’m at the start of my career, and I need to take a leap of faith.”

Megan reflected on her time on the set with a touch of nostalgia, saying: “It’s bittersweet, really. I’ve made lifelong friendships there, and I get to take those with me. But when I think about not rocking up to set and seeing Tim, who’s part of the grips team, with his guitar hanging out of his van and serenading people at half six in the morning.”

She warmly added: “It really has been like a family.”

Before she departed for Surrey, Roger gave his support to Nancy for taking on the new role, highlighting how it would benefit their future together.

He explained to his fiancee: “It’s right in the middle of my sales patch,” and encouraged her, “You have to take it, Nancy. You’ll be nearer to me until we get married.”

As anticipation builds following hints of Nancy’s return over the weekend, fans of Call the Midwife swarmed X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their elation, with one posting: “It looks like we’re finally getting Nancy back and the wedding next week! It’s only taken them all series!”

Other excited reactions included: “NANCY RETURNING LOOKING STUNNING OMG,” and another fan remarked: “Well at least we know Nancy is alive.”
