Social Media Reacts To MSNBC’s Cancellation Of Joy Reid’s Show

MSNBC is canceling Joy Reid’s show, “The ReidOut,” after a five-year run, and people on social media have thoughts.

News about Reid’s departure from the network started trending on Sunday, and the network’s new president, Rebecca Kutler, confirmed Reid’s departure on Monday to The Associated Press.

Reid announced her departure early Monday on social media and said she just wanted to “say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets.”

She also invited viewers to tune in to her final show on Monday.

During acall streamed on YouTube with Win With Black Women, a group that works to increase voter outreach with African-American women, Reid admitted she had “been through every emotion” since learning the news, including anger and disappointment, but “where I’ve landed on today is just gratitude.”

“My show had value,” Reid continued, according to the AP. “Whether it was the Black Lives Matter issues … (or) talking about Gaza and the fact that we as the American people have … a right to object to little babies being bombed … I am not sorry that I stood up for those things.”

Many people had strong thoughts about Reid’s removal from the MSNBC schedule, and some noted that she wasn’t the only person of color being replaced.

Joy Reid, Jonathan Capehart, Ayman Mohyeldin, and Katie Phang have been kicked from MSNBC’s lineup.

So, let me get this right: MSNBC not only fired Joy Reid and Katie Phang, but also Ayman *and* Jonathan Capehart?? *And* Lester Holt is stepping down from NBC’s anchor chair??

Joy Reid @thereidout is one of the boldest voices speaking truth to power. She speaks out for justice at home AND abroad. MSNBC should not have fired her. This comes after firing @mehdirhasan. Joy deserves to have a show in prime time given how many she speaks for.

No one happier that MSNBC cancelled Joy Reid then Trump and MAGA. In fact Trump cheered the firing on social media. Strong Black women are what anger Trump and MAGA the most. But given the rise of independent media we know Joy will be back in the fight very soon!…

I’m flabbergasted that Rebecca Kuntler fired JOY REID on the 4th anniversary of Putin attack on Ukraine. Reinstate JoyReid who I followed daily for years.

“Drain MSNBC of Viewers As It Whitewashes its Network to Placate Trump”

Under the leadership of Rebecca Kutler, MSNBC has decided to silence, sideline, and cancel prominent anchors of color, such as Joy Reid. The rest of us can tune out and build our own media community.… pic.twitter.com/hIxO6ESyKs

MSNBC shake-up: the issue is, they didn’t have a Joy Reid problem. They have a Joe Scarborough problem. Until he is fired, MSNBC will not recover. Shuffling tepid shows in and out does nothing. https://t.co/P1ZxXDwLw5

Joy Reid was fired in Black History Month.

Morning Joe bent the knee to Trump fascism & Joy Reid demanded justice against Trump fascism.Morning Joe whitewashed Netanyahu’s genocide of Palestinians & Joy Reid called out Netanyahu’s genocide.MSNBC protected Morning Joe & fired Joy Reid.I’m just not qwhite sure why.🤔

Two former Fox News employees also offered their thoughts, with some pettiness on the side.

I don’t enjoy someone losing a job but when I got fired from MSNBC Joy Reid “liked” the tweet of my firing announcement. I hope the experience of being fired humbles her and she learns from it. I learned from my firing. pic.twitter.com/F3v9NNsuNr

Joy Reid has viciously mocked the tears of every white person she’s helped cancel over the years for some imaginary racial slight. She’s had zero empathy for anyone. Now she wants us to feel sorry for her.
WE DON’T. https://t.co/Wk1zv7wZd3
