A lifestyle creator has shared how easy it is to create your own homemade butter with just one simple ingredient, without the need to buy any more from the

Megan Stewart, also known as @megannsweeneyy on explained the step-by-step of making butter from scratch.

All you’ll need is one tub of double cream.

In a video from earlier this month, Megan said: “I’m gonna sit you down when I tell you this, but you can make butter at home with things you already have in your house.

“You don’t need raw milk, you don’t need a butter churner, and you don’t need a Kitchen Aid to do this.

“All you need is a tub of double cream, any mixing bowl, and an electric whisk.”

Simply pour the entire tub of double cream into the mixing bowl and whisk until it turns to butter.

Megan explained: “You’re going to see it go through a couple of stages. First you’re gonna see like whipped cream, then you’re gonna see more of a clotted cream, and then finally it will start to turn into this yellow, butter-like texture.”

You’ll know when the mixture has reached this point when the butter and the buttermilk will begin to separate on its own.

Once this point has been reached, you’ll need to pour the buttermilk through a sieve and into a jug.

It’s also worth squeezing the butter through the sieve to make sure all of the buttermilk has been separated.

Megan continued: “It’s currently winter where I live so the tap water is so insanely cold. If it’s warmer where you live, I would advise using a bowlful of water and ice to clean the butter.

“Basically you just want the water so cold that the butter doesn’t melt while you do this. This is definitely one of the most important steps. You want to make sure all of the buttermilk is out of that butter, otherwise it will go rancid really quickly. Once the butter is clean, I pop it back into the bowl.”

You can also save the buttermilk for other recipes if you’d like. Megan then separated the butter into two blocks, placing a generous amount of salt flakes into one, and smoked garlic salt in the other.

The butter can be s in a plastic container – or like Megan – can be wrapped in parchment paper. There you have it, your own homemade butter.

Megan’s video has been viewed over a massive 671,000 times, receiving 28,300 likes and 183 comments.

Amelia said: “I watched this 20 minutes ago, realised I had double cream and now I have homemade butter! I needed this inspo, thank you.”

Ella asked: “Has anyone tried using homemade butter to bake with? Like I know It should work but in my head I can see it melting back to cream.”

To which Megan replied: “Yes I use it all the time, works exactly the same as store bought butter. Most important thing is you really work all that buttermilk out when you clean it as store bought is refined.”
