You should be cleaning your sink plugs every week, according to experts (Image: Getty)
A expert has shared that one item in kitchens is probably not cleaned enough despite the fact that most people use it daily.
You should be cleaning your sink plugs every week, @cleanqueenzcleaning explained on to her nearly 50,000 followers. And a quick wipe down won’t suffice – especially if you are washing up in your sink multiple times a week.
To do this, you should remove the sink plug and place it in a bowl with water and a cleaner of your choice. Then, she applied cleaning cream (she used the Scrub Daddy Cif Cream) and scrubbed it with a sponge or electric brush to remove all the dirt and grime.
If your plug has several layers, you can take it apart by unscrewing the long metal part that holds them together. After cleaning each element, simply screw it all back together, the TikToker demonstrates.
Afterwards, give your sink a proper scrub with a cleaning cream and a scrubbing sponge. Wipe it down with a microfibre cloth before spraying it with antibacterial liquid and buffing it dry.

You should also be paying more attention to your kitchen’s extractor vents, @cleanqueenzcleaning explains, as dirt and grime can build up from cooking.
These can be cleaned by removing them from above your hob and placing them in your sink where you will pour oven dish soap, bicarbonate of soda, and boiling water before scrubbing with a toothbrush.
Other items you should be cleaning more include your oven, your mop head and bucket, and your television remotes, she says. Cushion covers and blankets, particularly in public areas of your home, should be washed often too and can just be popped in the laundry.

Some key elements in your home that are often overlooked are light switches and door handles. These are high-touch surfaces and therefore can be key spots in spreading germs between people in your home.
You should make sure to clean these regularly as well as after having visitors in your home, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Use soap and water or cleaning products appropriate for use on the surface and make sure to be safe to reduce the risk of electrocution.
