A self-styled Jim Carrey ‘Dumb and Dumber’ lookalike has been jailed for his stupidity – after being caught burgling a home for a wedding dress.
In April 2023 – when wanted by Staffordshire Police – cocky Devon Bentley responded to a mugshot appeal showing his bowl cut hairstyle by taunting them on social media saying: “I’m a B-Tech Jim Kerry (sic) bro. I’m here sir.”
In the 1994 comedy movie, Jim Carrey sported a drastic bowl haircut to play daft Lloyd Christmas embarking on a road adventure with best pal Henry Dunne (played by Jeff Daniels).
When police issued their mugshot of the burglary suspect two years ago social media users ridiculed his fringe and he even admitted in replies that his coiffure resembled the iconic character.
Now he’s been jailed for three-and-a-half years and 17 days at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after admitting burglary, theft and handling stolen goods.
Bentley, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to targeting an empty home in February 2024.

Staffordshire Police said: “Bentley forced his way in through the garage door and took an estimated £1,655 worth of items from inside, including a wedding dress, medication, ornaments, a model racing car, a suitcase and two coats.
“We carried out forensic work at the scene and identified Bentley as a suspect. We searched his house and found a number of the stolen items inside.
“He was arrested and questioned in March, leading to the charges being secured.
“Bentley was also linked through DNA to an Audi A6 that was stolen from an address in Stone on 9 October.
“The same Audi was linked to the theft of a mountain bike from an address in Cellarhead on 11 October and a theft of a motocross bike from Werrington.”

Sergeant Marc Proctor said: “Bentley took items of real sentimental value for his own profit and has rightfully been brought to justice for his crimes.
“Burglary in any form can have a serious impact on victims and families.
“We don’t take this for granted and I hope this sentencing demonstrates the work we’re doing every day in Staffordshire to act robustly against those responsible and to deliver justice for those affected.”
Edmund Potts, defending, said: “The defendant had a deeply traumatic and difficult upbringing. His partner has a young son and he has had time to reflect.
“He aims to be present to have a positive impact on his son. He knows he needs to change for himself and for others.”
Jailing Bentley, Recorder Robert Smith told him:: “You are still a young man, you had difficulties in your adolescence and in your upbringing, and your offending is due to a chaotic life.
“The reality is if you don’t change your ways, the role model you will be giving to that child isn’t great.”
