Woody, an 11 year old Shih Tzu-Poodle mix, recently marked his decade-long stay with carers at Dogs Trust’s rehoming centre.
Lauded as ‘one of a kind’ and ‘the smartest dog we’ve ever had’, Woody is on the lookout for a family that can keep up with his sharp mind and playful spirit.
Michaela Wells, Assistant Manager at Dogs Trust Shoreham Rehoming Centre, gushed: “Woody is an incredible dog.
“He’s clever, playful and full of personality.
“We adore him, and every birthday we celebrate with him is special, but what he really needs is a home of his own.
“He deserves to spend his next birthday on a cosy sofa, not in a kennel.
“After a decade of waiting, we know there’s someone out there who’s the perfect match for Woody – we just need to find them!”
Woody was originally taken into care by Dogs Trust in September 2015 after his previous owners found his behaviour challenging.
He requires adopters who respect his personal space and are willing to invest time and patience to ease him into domestic life, given his long-term kennel residence and established routine.
Despite his poignant tale, the team at Dogs Trust Shoreham goes above and beyond each year to ensure Woody’s birthday celebrations are anything but forgotten.
This year, Woody was inundated with birthday cards, toys, and gifts from his fans across the country due to his new role as a Sponsor Dog.
Despite his advanced years, Woody still has plenty of energy, whether it’s performing tricks, playing tug, or embarking on adventures.
The Dogs Trust team is more than willing to discuss Woody’s health conditions and how they can be easily managed at home with potential adopters. More information about Woody and other Dogs Trust dogs can be found at
