With the days getting longer and the weather getting milder, now is the perfect time to start planting.
According to Elise Harlock, brand manager at Prestige Flowers, there are six which will “bloom beautifully” all summer long with “minimal effort”.
The pro also shared that planting doesn’t have to be confusing or a lot of upkeep, either.
The expert explained: “Spring is the season of renewal, and the flowers you plant now will set the stage for a spectacular summer display.
“Whether you love bold colours, delicate pastels or fragrant blooms, there’s something for every .”

1. Sunflowers
Elise explained: “Nothing says summer quite like sunflowers. They’re cheerful, easy to grow, and brilliant for attracting bees.”
They’ll appreciate full sun and well-draining soil, but they’re quite low maintenance otherwise if planted now.
2. Sweet peas
If you love fragrance in your garden, sweet peas “are a must”, according to the plant expert
They’re beautiful in shades of soft pinks, purples and whites and can be sown into pots now for flowering by mid-summer.

3. Dahlias
Elise explained: “Dahlias are an absolute favourite for summer gardens. They bloom from mid-summer right into autumn, giving you months of gorgeous flowers.”
Plant them in April or May once any risk of late frost has passed for the best flowering results.
4. Marigolds
The expert recommended marigolds for beginner gardeners because of how easy they are to grow.
With bright orange and yellow flowers, they thrive in both borders and containers, deterring pests as they grow.

5. Lavender
For a touch of Provence in your garden, lavender is a must, and it’s best grown in well-draining soil and full sunlight.
Elise added: “Lavender not only smells incredible, but it’s also fantastic for pollinators. Plant it now, and by summer, you’ll have a sea of fragrant purple flowers.”
7. Cosmos
If you want a wildflower with minimal fuss, cosmos could be a great option for you as they only need deadheading for continuous flowering.
The expert said: “Cosmos are one of the easiest flowers to grow from seed, and they just keep blooming. They’ll fill your garden with delicate, daisy-like flowers well into autumn.”
