might be where the money is, but as rebel star Marc Leishman now knows only too well, some things in the game are priceless. The Australian took a break from professional action to play a tournament at Warrnambool Golf Club, only to be humbled by an amateur.
Leishman has been in good form in 2025, finishing sixth and 12th in LIV tournaments in Riyadh and Adelaide.
The Ripper GC man wasn’t too shabby in the local event on Thursday either, carding a bogey-free 61 and recording 42 points.
In fact, the 41-year-old, playing off a plus-five handicap, actually equalled his own course record. He racked up nine birdies and an eagle which many would assume would be good enough for first place.
But he was beaten into second by a 12-handicapper with the ironic name of David Greed. He seemingly took on ‘bandit’ status, scoring a superb 43 points to take the tournament.
He wasn’t the only player to excel himself. In third place was 19-handicapper Andrew Gottliebsen with 41 points while Terry Smith and Ross Corbett, both off three, were joint fourth with 39.

The images of the scorecards were shared on by @AmphibianOK5396, and prompted a positive reaction from amateur hackers everywhere. The result also showcased how golf works below the professional level, with the handicap system meaning all tournament entrants have a chance of victory.
Despite the upset, Leishman will unlikely let the result derail his season. After two events, he sits 16th in the LIV standings, with tournaments in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Miami to come.
Leishman had six titles to his name when he chose to join the Saudi-backed tour in August 2022. His best finish in a major championship is tied for second at in 2015.
Last year, he was part of the all-Australian Ripper squad that took the LIV team title in Dallas. That earned him a share of the quartet’s £2.7million prize fund.
Those statistics will not affect Greed too much right now. This week, he enjoyed a moment that no amount of money could buy.
