Inside Miss Austen star Alfred Enoch’s life – famous parent, girlfriend and real accent

The sumptuous period drama Miss Austen, a joint venture by the and PBS Masterpiece, concludes tonight (Sunday, February 23), having enchanted viewers throughout its run. The fourth and final episode shines the spotlight on Alfred Enoch, who portrays the charming Regency hero Mr Lidderdale.

Here’s everything you need to know about the actor.

Enoch, a 36 year old British-Brazilian talent, is the offspring of Doctor Who icon William Russell and his second wife, doctor Etheline Margareth Lewis. He has carved out a successful career in acting, with notable roles including Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter film series and Wes Gibbins in Shondaland’s popular series How to Get Away with Murder, where he starred alongside Viola Davis.

His other credits span a range of genres and platforms, from Apple TV’s grand sci-fi saga Foundation to Channel 4 and Starz’s The Couple Next Door and the series Trust Me, as reported by the Express. He has also appeared in Troy: Fall of a City, The Critic, This Is Christmas and Tigers.

Enoch has previously shared that his father’s presence in the entertainment industry made his own acting aspirations feel achievable, giving him the “permission” to pursue it as a career. His talents extend to the stage as well, with performances in productions of Romeo and Juliet, Red and King Lear under his belt.

According to IMDb, Enoch’s next project is the mini-series Run Away, which is currently in production. A graduate of Oxford with a degree in Modern Languages, Enoch is not only a skilled actor but also a polyglot, fluent in English, Portuguese, French and Spanish.

Enoch, known for his private nature away from the spotlight, was reported by The Guardian to have been in a relationship in 2021, spending most of the pandemic living with his girlfriend in London. In a 2014 interview with Cosmopolitan, Enoch revealed he had a girlfriend when discussing his American accent for How to Get Away with Murder.

He admitted to conversing with his girlfriend in his US accent to help him maintain it for the popular series. He also shared that his partner was British, making his UK accent less exotic than it would be to Americans.

However, details about his current personal life and relationship status remain scant. Enoch has previously expressed his preference for real-life interactions over social media engagement.

Miss Austen concludes on One tonight at 9.05pm and is streaming as a boxset on the iPlayer now
