When “Emilia Pérez” was celebrated at Sunday’s SAG Awards, Karla Sofía Gascón was far from the spotlight.
Not only did the Spanish actor skip the award show, but she also seemed to have been largely cut from a segment highlighting the much-lauded musical crime comedy.
In a supercut of the film’s highlights, its leading lady only appeared for a split second while supporting stars Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña took up most of the screen time.
Gascón has been keeping a low profile after a slate of offensive X posts she once made resurfaced late last month.

In the since-deleted posts, the actor denigrated Muslims, criticized diversity at the Oscars and called George Floyd a “drug addict swindler.” Another post purported to be from Gascón described her co-star Gomez as a “rich rat.”
Though she subsequently apologized for the “hurt” her words may have caused in a statement through “Emilia Pérez” distributor Netflix, she also complained about the backlash in separate interviews.
“I have been convicted and sacrificed and crucified and stoned without a trial and without the option to defend myself,” she told CNN Español earlier this month.
The SAG Awards were not the first event Gascón has chosen to skip this awards season. She was also conspicuously absent from this month’s Critics Choice Awards, PGA Awards and the BAFTAs.
While the star has been avoiding the public eye since the controversy began, she is reportedly planning to attend next month’s Oscars.
