When a TK Maxx customer kept finding a mysterious note in every handbag she picked up, she was desperate to know what it meant.

TK Maxx is renowned for its designer bargains, eclectic items, novels, and beauty products from popular brands. However, one shopper, @madssteffano on , noticed something mysterious – scraps of paper with names written on them in the handbags she was browsing. She was determined to uncover the meaning behind these strange notes.

“Please help? Am I going crazy? Like why is this a thing? And they all say Bob and Lisa,” she captioned her video. Mads had removed the stuffing from the handbag and found the note at the bottom, leaving her puzzled about the identities of Bob and Lisa.

In the video, she wrote: “Someone explain to me right now why I keep finding a piece of paper that says Bob and Lisa in purses at [the international name for TK Maxx]?”

One person claimed that Bob stands for “Bottom Of Bag” and Lisa stands for “Look In Small Areas”, allegedly a “loss prevention terminology” to prevent customers from hiding additional items in larger ones, such as handbags.

Another commenter suggested there’s an incentive for staff to spot these hidden items. “If the cashiers find them and turn them while ringing you out, they get entered into a drawing, which means they did their job and checked inside,” she claimed.

A former employee reminisced about her time at the store: “This just pulled a memory from deep inside my brain from working at TJ Maxx,” a woman wrote.

Another individual chimed in, saying that the notes serve as “reminders for employees”. But, of course, they can’t win if they don’t search for them.

One person humorously proposed a plan: “I’m just gonna go to TJ Maxx, take them all out, and give them to my cashier to turn in for a prize,” they quipped.

A TikToker explained the rationale behind the practice is to “make sure nobody is hiding anything or stealing”.

“When cashiers would find it at my TJ Maxx, you would get a candy bar,” revealed someone who worked at the store.

TK Maxx has been approached for comment.
