Antiques Road Trip expert fumes ‘I don’t want to talk about it’ after huge loss

Antiques Road Trip expert Philip Serrell was left disgruntled, choosing to remain silent after suffering a significant loss on an item.

In Wednesday’s (February 12) episode of the spin-off show, Phil and his co-star Natasha Raskin-Sharp embarked on a bargain hunt in Scotland, travelling in a 1948 classic car.

Each armed with a budget of £200, they gathered five items from local shops. Natasha secured a badge collection, a Spode meat platter, a Swedish art ceramic desk set, a bouillotte lamp, and a silvered copper fish dish.

Phil, on the other hand, exhausted his entire budget on Bryant and May advertising matchboxes, a 1950s racing helmet, a Victorian truncheon, and a 19th-century boot scraper.

However, his hopes of making a profit at auction were dashed when one of his items, the boot scraper, didn’t perform as expected, reports .

Upon discovering the item in the shop, Philip commented: “That’s nice. A boot scraper and it is cast iron so, originally that was £120 and that’s been crossed out and it’s now £100. So, it’s clearly on the way down and not on the way up.”

Despite his enthusiasm for the piece, he was determined to secure a good deal. After some negotiation with the shop owner, he managed to purchase the boot scraper for £50. Regrettably, Phil’s 19th-century boot scraper resulted in a disappointing £25 loss at auction.

In the tense moments leading up to the disappointment, Natasha tried to offer comfort to her colleague, remarking: “Hey, it’s going to be fine.” Filled with optimism, Philip responded: “I’m positive now. Right, think positive.”

The auctioneer then announced: “We’re opening already at £20. £20 with me for the cast iron boot scraper. Here at £25 takes online.”

Phil’s enthusiasm quickly faded as Natasha looked at him and commented: “I think you’ve been done there. That’s annoying.” With a gesture of resignation, Phil folded his arms and admitted: “I don’t want to talk about it.” Natasha replied: “Ok then we won’t.”
