Ranvir Singh discussed the leaked WhatsApp messages
Nearly a dozen Labour councillors have been suspended as part of its investigation into a WhatsApp group that has already seen two MPs removed from the party.
The former health minister Andrew Gwynne was sacked over a series of offensive comments made in the chat involving a number of Labour MPs and councillors.
Oliver Ryan, the MP for Burnley who was elected last summer, also had the whip withdrawn over his involvement in the group, named “Trigger Me Timbers”.
During Thursday’s edition (February 13) of , discussed the new leaked messages which has led to the suspension of 11 more councillors.
Reporting live from Westminster, political correspondent Louisa recognised that the WhatsApp scandal has become “infamous”.
The Times received the entire transcript featuring half a million words, which Louisa explained were “never meant to be seen by anybody outside of the group”.
In the messages, exchanged between 2019 and 2022, the late Queen Elizabeth was ridiculed for being “dragged” around a “dusty old palace”.
When told she could no longer take the stairs, the Labour MP responded: “I don’t buy that. She was riding horses last week. She’s just lazy.”
Louisa read another message sent my Mr Ryan, who appears to refer to one of his colleagues who has a visual impairment as “the blind one from Battersea”.
He went on to say: “Marsha from Battersea wrote to me and said, I can’t find my way out of the office, send help.”
In one instance, Mr Gwynne reportedly said he hoped a pensioner who did not vote Labour but had complained about her bins would have “croaked it” before the next round of elections.
He also reportedly posted sexist comments about and racist remarks about Labour MP Diane Abbott.
