On the other side of the commercial-political divide, consumers can find products proclaiming that Canada is not for sale
“Take this crap off your site!!!!!!!,” writes Mark Dranfeld, in a comment that 468 people indicated was helpful. “This is offensive to all Canadians!,” writes Rick Woodhouse, a comment supported by 428 people. A third commenter, who identifies simply as Shar, writes “Not going to happen” in a post entitled “Disgusting.” Other reviewers refer to the hat as “garbage.”
Kassandra Scoufaras writes in her review: “Canada is an independent, sovereign nation. We will never ever ever be part of America. Stop selling this trash.”
Meanwhile, amid a renewed call for Canadians to support local businesses and products rather than relying on international companies like Amazon, there have been calls for Amazon to discontinue the sale of such items.
Amazon referred to the policy when responding to CTV, adding it would not be preventing the sales of any of the controversial products, as they do not contravene that policy.
Similarly, in an email to the National Post late Wednesday, the company pointed to this policy without providing any further official comment.
