Cleanest country in the world is also popular European holiday hotspot

If you want a holiday that’s not rammed with , where the air is clean and the streets are free from litter, then look no further than this European hotspot which has been named the cleanest country in the world.

According to a report on The Air We Breathe by the World Population Review, has been found to have the and the lowest emissions.

Based on the (EPI), which looks at factors like greenhouse emissions, CO2, achievements on carbon-negative status, methane, implementation of environmental policies and the extension of forests, renewable energy sources and rainforests, Estonia is the number one spot.

The analysis found to have the cleanest air and the highest global EPI, at 75.3.

The other European countries featured on this list included Luxembourg (75), Germany (74.6), Finland (73.7), United Kingdom (72.7), Sweden (70.5), Norway (70), Austria (69), Switzerland (68), and Denmark (67.9).

In fact, Estonia, United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Luxembourg, Austria, Norway and Switzerland have all held the top spots on the list of the world’s cleanest countries since 2020. 

If you want to visit Estonia then its capital of Tallinn is unmissable. The entire city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 1997 due to its incredibly intact 13th-century Old Town with spires galore and original buildings.

The Old Town actually consists of two distinct areas: the Upper Town, or Toompea, which is home to the Estonian government which has sat in the pretty medieval pink Stenbock House and the 800-year old Toompea Castle, and the Lower Town.

If you’re planning a visit, Pikk Hermann Tower, part of Toompea Castle and 150ft above sea level, is the one to climb. Needless to say, the views will literally take your breath away. If they don’t, the 215 steps to the top certainly will.
