Olly Rix, known for his role in Call The Midwife, is set to captivate viewers in a fresh medical drama role. After his time on the beloved series, he’s stepping into the shoes of Clinical Lead Flynn Byron in Casualty and its spin-off, Internal Affairs.
“It’s been a pleasure to join the Casualty cast in such a dynamic role,” Olly, 39, expressed, clearly excited about his new venture.
“Flynn crashes into the world of it from a very different background, resulting in a complex and exciting story in Internal Affairs and beyond. It’s a brilliant new chapter for the show and I am excited for the audience to get to know Flynn.”
Fans will have to wait until March to see Flynn on screen, but the has already hinted that this character, who joins the NHS straight after a military tour, will tackle the “challenge of instilling change in a system weighed down by bureaucracy”. Additionally, Flynn will confront his own past traumas and unravel a mysterious ‘deception’.
The show dropped a tantalising teaser: “Welcome to the E.D, @olly.rix The E.D’s new Clinical Lead, Flynn Byron joins the NHS fresh from a tour of duty. He’s a man with a purpose, and with a fierce resolve to make a difference. Look out for Flynn in the upcoming #Casualty boxset #InternalAffairs. #InternalAffairs coming soon”, reports .

Buzz has been building since last July that Olly might make a dramatic entrance into the world of Casualty, but he’s kept his lips sealed until now. With his much-anticipated debut as a medical whizz on the show just around the corner, it’ll be exactly one year after Olly said his goodbyes to Call The Midwife.
Olly, who wowed audiences in series 10, saw his character Matthew Aylward wave goodbye to the show and head for the Big Apple in the season 13 finale, however there were hopes he would return.
In that same month, the actor took to social media to ponder over “endings and beginnings” and introduced his devoted followers to his charming new four-legged friend, Nellie.

Since waving farewell to Matthew, Call The Midwife thrilled its fans with the annual Christmas cracker of an episode and unfurled its 14th season, although Olly’s character was noticeably absent.
Heidi Thomas, the mastermind behind the series, has spilled the beans about how Matthew’s disappearance is set to affect his on-screen wife Trixie in future episodes.
She disclosed: “Trixie continues to divide her time between her exciting new life in New York and life at Nonnatus House,” while hinting that Trixie will be at the centre of a revolutionary management plot destined to safeguard the legacy of Nonnatus House and thrust her into thrilling new leadership trials.
