Mythic Quest star spills surprise Disney connection to murder mystery episode

The latest episode of Mythic Quest has been hailed as perhaps the show’s most spectacular to date – a gloriously opulent murder mystery event, brimming with extravagant attire, a grim mansion setting and a plethora of twists so enthralling they would have Agatha Christie tipping her hat.

The latest Apple TV+ outing, titled The Villain’s Feast, takes viewers on a thrilling journey that deviates from the norm in the series’ fourth season.

In an exclusive chat with Screen Time, series regular David Hornsby described his excitement about the dramatic shift: “It was nice to put ourselves in a new environment with these stakes that are heightened, these fun faux stakes.

“It was really fun to get out of the office and in a completely different environment.”

Adding to the behind-the-scenes revelations, Charlotte Nicdao, who plays Poppy Li, shared an enchanting tidbit linking the episode to an iconic Disney classic.

Nicdao disclosed with delight, “It was an amazing house and as far as I understand it, it was the same mansion that they filmed The Princess Diaries in.

“We’re obviously using very different lighting, but there’s a scene on the staircase that I think you can see.

“It was very exciting for all of us millennials who were like, ‘Oh my gosh! I’m the princess of Genovia!'”

Within the narrative, the characters navigate the intricacies of their roles, with David Brittlesbee, portrayed by Hornsby, striving to connect with his younger team members throughout the tumultuous episode.

The talents of the Mythic Quest star, particularly on the piano, are set to dazzle fans, despite some out-of-date references to Cary Grant. “There were a lot of riffs and improvs we were doing with that,” Hornsby shared.

Nicdao admitted: “I can’t even see David in this episode at all without laughing, because he was making the whole cast laugh so much during that episode. I want to see the edit where we just see all of your improv.”

Hornsby reminisced about an extended improvisation: “I did have an extended bit where I kind of became the grandfather in A Christmas Story. The owner of the house was renting it to the production and was allowed to watch and that bit went on…”

“This was not when we were shooting,” Nicdao clarified.

“This was just like whenever you would see David while we were not shooting the show he was doing this character.”

Hornsby described his character as “Very creepy,” while Nicdao remembered the cast being in stitches over it. However, when it came to the piano scenes, Hornsby confessed he wasn’t performing himself: “No. I have very basic piano skills and I learned some chords, but once we got to it, it was like, ‘Oh no, I can’t play. The expert piano player is sitting next to me.'”

The upcoming episode promises to showcase the Mythic Quest ensemble in a glamorous new setting, complete with cryptic challenges and Jo (Jessie Ennis) hosting with an unexpected British twang.

Naomi Ekperigin, who plays the head of HR Carol in the show, shared her excitement about a particularly immersive filming experience: “It was something that felt, this is going to sound silly, but the most ‘actor-y’.

“We’re in costume, there’s a whole wig, we’re in this old mansion and I was in heaven.”

She gushed over the period setting, saying, “It was giving Downton Abbey, I was like, ‘this is what I want every day to be’. I said ‘give me a Bridgerton moment’. I’m obsessed with any outfit so it was really fun.”

When it came to the cast member who looked the sharpest, she revealed, “I said wow to everybody, but, when I was watching it back, I did text Danny Pudi and I said ‘You and your wife should get married again and you should wear that suit’. I was like, ‘You are sharp’.”

Ennis also chimed in with praise for the lead’s attire: “And I loved Rob [McElhenney]’s costume and he was definitely walking differently that week.

“He loved putting his glasses on and being like, ‘Good morning’. He was kind of in character the whole time which was really fun.”

The episode, titled The Villain’s Feast, is now available for streaming, complete with an unexpected final twist.
