Piers Morgan has called for Elon Musk to be “unleashed” on the NHS to “save billions” as he praised the Tesla tycoon for his reforms in the US.
The broadcaster’s comments come after spoke at length in the Oval Office last night before President Trump signed new executive orders. These allowed the Tesla-tycoon to make large-scale cuts to the federal workforce.
Mr Musk said he wants to add “common sense controls” to government, ensuring that taxpayers money is spent efficiently. He said: “Your tax dollars need to be spent wisely on things that matter to the people… it’s just common sense. It’s not draconian or radical”.
The head of the department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will work with government agencies, in some cases, so they can be “eliminated or combined because their functions aren’t required by law”.

Mr Musk’s department has also instructed agencies to “hire no more than one employee for every four employees that depart from federal service.”
took to social media following the speech and praised the billionaire for the new measures.
The journalist posted a photo on X of Sky News’ broadcast of Mr Musk speaking alongside the president, with the caption: “All I’m thinking as I watch this, is that I’d love to see @elonmusk unleashed on the NHS in the UK… he’d save billions and make it work properly again.
“Government needs big brain wrecking balls to fix stuff that’s broken – not meek mediocre minnows.”
However, not everyone reacted positively to the new executive orders, with the Tesla boss facing accusations of orchestrating a “hostile takeover” of the government which he was quizzed on by reporters.

Mr Morgan addressed this on X, writing: “The media may mock this extraordinary @elonmusk & @realDonaldTrump show from the Oval Office… but I suspect the way they’re talking about how the US federal government has been spaffing so much taxpayer money up the wall, will have many Americans cheering loudly.”
The tech CEO brought his son, X Æ A-12, aged four, who stood next to him while he spoke.
Mr Musk explained during his speech that “the public voted for major government reform… and they’re going to get what they voted for. And that’s what democracy is all about”.
“We have this unelected, fourth unconstitutional branch of government, which is the bureaucracy, which has in a lot of ways, currently more power than any elected representative,” he added.
