The atmosphere on The One Show took a rather uncomfortable twist when guest star David Walliams dropped a wisecrack about Prime Minister .

Joining David were his co-star from Little Britain, Matt Lucas, and former star Lindsey Coulson, as they chatted with hosts Alex Jones and Clara Amfo about their current projects.

As the discussion turned to schooldays prompted by Lindsey’s chatter on her new role in the school-based drama Waterloo Road, David couldn’t resist dropping a bombshell, claiming, “I was at school with , yeah. And he gave me a detention and it was Christmas time and it was really cold and he turned off the heating.”

The joke seemed to catch host Alex off-guard, but David, maintaining his playful demeanour, confessed, “I did go to the same school as , but actually, we didn’t meet each other.”

In a quick follow-up, he also quipped, “And Fatboy Slim was there too. Yeah, he was yeah! ” and joked, “He was doing the DJing and Keir was being the Prime Minister, I was acting the giddy goat! ” In an effort to steer the conversation back, Alex swiftly transitioned to discussing ‘ 40th anniversary.

However, viewers tuned into the awkwardness and promptly took to their preferred social media platforms to express their observations.

One viewer exclaimed: “Loved David’s dig at . He’s clearly far too outspoken for the . He’s probably next to be cancelled.”, reports Wales Online.

Another amused fan tweeted: “Watching the presenters on #TheOneShow totally not getting @davidwalliams make a joke about going to school with Kier Starmer and giving them a detention and turning the heating off. Don’t know which was funnier.”

A third added with a laugh: “That was pure chaos lol.”

David’s quip was in reference to the Labour government’s recent move to slash winter fuel payments for the majority of pensioners.

As the cold season gripped Britain last year, stood by his stringent measure, asserting that the Labour administration “was going to have to be unpopular” to address the blunders made by the previous government.
