, having recently retired from boxing, is on the cusp of revealing some major news.
This development trails shortly after the ‘Gypsy King’ . Speaking to his fans, he declared: “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet,” and with a hint of mystery, he continued, “I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it. I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. Get up!”
Since hanging up his gloves following consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk, the 36 year old has shifted his focus to family life, recently whisking them away to Disneyland Paris for a break. But Frank Warren, head honcho at Queensberry Promotions, weighed in on Fury’s prospective return, although nothing definitive has emerged from their discussions—or lack thereof. Addressing Fury’s current situation on Seconds Out via YouTube, Warren remarked: “Didn’t even discuss it with him,” referring to speculation about a comeback. He went on to touch upon Tyson’s arduous past year, noting: “He’s enjoying himself. He’s had a hard, hard year last year. Tough fights, three training camps… tough times. Missed his family, missed his kids.”
Warren has disclosed that he wouldn’t urge Fury to return to the ring, hinting at an impending major announcement from the ex-world champion. “I wouldn’t encourage him to fight again,” he stated, adding, “But if he does fight again, who knows, he may do it again. If he does that’s up to him. What I know he’s going to be doing is making some serious announcements about things he is doing outside of the ring that are exciting. I’m not going to say what they are, but they are bloody exciting. Everybody’s going to love it.”
Despite his firm stance on not re-entering the ring, Fury’s old adversary Derek Chisora has thrown his support behind the Brit for a face-off with Anthony Joshua. Following his victory over Otto Wallin, ‘Del Boy’ speculated: “Who knows? Right now AJ is healing himself after the defeat from Daniel Dubois. He’s not ready yet. When he’s ready he’ll come back and I think he’ll come back – not to fight me but to fight the ‘Gypsy King’. I’ll let the public decide [who next]. I’ll let you guys decide.”
Boxing icon Amir Khan has weighed in on the potential impact of Tyson Fury’s recent defeat to Usyk, suggesting it could have a psychological effect on the heavyweight champion. Speaking to Betway about a possible showdown between Anthony Joshua and Fury, Khan said: “It’ll be a good, close fight. I think it will go the distance, but it will be good to see because both fighters are at a good level.”
He praised Joshua’s form pre-Daniel Dubois and noted Fury’s need to maintain his top form to make it a close contest with Joshua. “If Fury is still at the top and has all of the confidence, then I think Fury wins that fight all day long. But with the last two fights, it’s even and is a 50/50 fight now,” he said. Khan also shared his personal experience of how a loss can affect a boxer mentally. “Mentally, Fury may have been really impacted and that’s normal. I’m not talking bad about him but it’s normal and happened to me. When I had that fight loss against Lamont Peterson, mentally I was done.
“Even though I knew I was a better fighter than Danny Garcia, he beat me and knocked me out. I was outboxing him and destroying him but it’s life. I feel Fury needs to come back and have one or two fights and then take the AJ fight. But knowing Fury with the b**** he has got, he will want to jump straight into that fight which would be very hard.”
Khan suggested that Fury should consider a couple of comeback fights before taking on Joshua. However, he acknowledged Fury’s fighting spirit, saying: “Mentally, Fury may have been really impacted and that’s normal. I’m not talking bad about him but it’s normal and happened to me. When I had that fight loss against Lamont Peterson, mentally I was done. Even though I knew I was a better fighter than Danny Garcia, he beat me and knocked me out. I was outboxing him and destroying him but it’s life. I feel Fury needs to come back and have one or two fights and then take the AJ fight.
