‘s post-match training session after knocking out of the last week was ‘unprofessional’, according to Martin Keown.

Manager took the decision to put some players through their paces on the Old Trafford pitch after being left underwhelmed by their performance. The Red Devils required a second-half comeback and a stoppage-time winner to edge past the Foxes on another tough evening for their new boss.

While some fans were pleased to see Amorim cracking the whip and setting high standards, legend Keown was not convinced by the ‘unorthodox’ call, which he feels could be a result of fear for his future.

He told : “It does feel a little bit unprofessional: ‘Because we haven’t got time in the week to do it, we are doing a session afterwards’. It’s very unorthodox. It’s not the norm. They’ve got nine days before they play their next game.

“But is it about embarrassing the players a little bit? Look, they were awful for large periods of that game. It has to be [that] he’s so annoyed, there’s no time to wait and no time to lose because he could be out of a job as well. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility.”

Amorim has complained about the lack of high-quality training time in which to implement his system during a busy winter schedule.

But with their Europa League knockout-round spot comfortably secured, and no Carabao Cup ties to contend with, United’s fixture list has finally relented. They will have had more than a week to prepare for their intriguing clash at on Sunday by the time kick-off rolls around.

‘s side have been stifled by defensive injuries and Amorim may feel that a victory in north London is exactly the kind of pick-me-up United need in order to kick-start his tenure.

The Red Devils spent years backing former manager with expensive new signings, only to sack him midway through this season and hire a manager with a completely different set of ideas.

PSR pressure meant the United board were not able to freely back Amorim in the January transfer window. Patrick Dorgu was the only senior signing while Antony, Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia were all sent on loan.

United have won eight of their 24 Premier League matches this season and have a five-point deficit to close if they are to finish in the top-half.
