A foodie has shown how you can use leftover bread to make a delicious dessert by adding one basic ingredient.
Catherine, known as The Fast Foodie, creates short videos that show quick and easy as well as simple food hacks. She posted a video on demonstrating what you can do with a slice of bread.
The content creator turned a slice of white bread into a doughnut by just adding a bit of water and sugar. users tried and tested her technique and gave positive feedback.
In the 14-second clip, Catherine begins by cutting off the crust of a slice of white bread. Next she adds a small amount of water to the bread before rolling it into a ball.
Then, using her finger, she pokes a hole in the middle of the ball and flattens it to create a classic doughnut shape. She fries the doughnut in oil in a pan until it is golden brown and then coats it in sugar.

To finish off the sweet treat, she optionally dips it in chocolate sauce and enjoys it warm. The caption of Catherine’s video reads: “One of my all-time favourite food hacks – turning a slice of white bread into a delicious donut – served warm with sugar and chocolate sauce, they’re surprisingly tasty and SO much easier to make than regular doughnuts! Don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it”
The post has received an impressive 2.1 million views, 96,500 likes and more than 700 comments at the time of writing. One user said: “Guyss I tried it in the airfryer and it’s amazing!”
Another fan shared how they made the doughnuts: “I did it in the oven for five minutes and it was so good still. I also did it with honey.”
A third user added: “So quick and easy have to try it.” Further foodies had questions for Catherine, including what kind of bread she used, how she cooked them and what type of oil she used.
The food content creator said she has found “cheap white bread works best”. She advises adding milk or water gradually so you get “just the right amount” and if it gets sticky, she suggests adding a small amount of flour.
Catherine said she fried the doughnuts straight into a pan “with lots of oil” and gave a helpful tip: “You need to make sure the oil is hot enough when you fry it (and don’t dry for too long).”
She added that it needs to “sizzle a lot when you first drop the doughnut in” or the bread “will be oily.” Replying to a comment about what type of oil she used, Catherine said she “deep fried” the doughnuts in vegetable oil.
One user asked an important question numerous people are likely to have in their heads: “Does it genuinely taste nice?” Catherine responded: “Yes, surprisingly it does taste like actual donuts!”
