Britain is full of beautiful countryside and plenty of beautiful walking trails, but one county has emerged as the best location for walking.

With spring on the horizon, you be planning some weekend getaways to explore all the nature that the UK has to offer, whether that’s enjoying a stroll through a nature reserve or walking the length of a wildlife trail.

The team at have revealed that Devon is the top county for walking in the UK, with the brand giving it a 10/10 nature walk hotspot score.

Devon is home to 600 wildlife trails and ten nature reserves; nature enthusiasts will find plenty to explore.

Walks in Devon can take you from stunning coastal paths to lush woodlands, and the county even has 81.6% tree cover in urban areas.

The experts at Go Outdoors add: “Devon’s combination of rich biodiversity, accessibility, and green spaces makes it an ideal destination for nature lovers.

“Dartmoor National Park in Devon provides rolling hills and historic tors for a peaceful yet picturesque setting.”

Next on the list was Hampshire, home to the New Forest, which offers stunning woodland trails and abundant wildlife. With this in mind, Hampshire has 792 wildlife trails and nine nature reserves.

In third place was Surrey, with almost three in ten (27.9%) of the county’s population living within ten minutes of a green space.

Surrey is also home to 626 wildlife trails but just three nature reserves, although it makes up for this with some stunning sites of interest, including Box Hill, known for its sweeping views and ancient woodlands full of fauna and animals, making it the perfect place to enjoy some walks.
