Federico Chiesa could hold the keys to getting a run at Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz in the summer transfer window.

The Italian attacker joined from Juventus in the previous summer window, penning a £12.5million move from the Serie A outfit.

He was dubbed one of the bargains of the window and represented the only senior addition to ’s side during his first summer in charge of the Merseyside outfit.

But over six months on from Chiesa’s move to , things haven’t exactly gone to plan for the Italian.

Part of that has been injury-related, but across the eight Premier League matches he’s been available for, Chiesa is yet to start any of them.

In fact, his only Premier League appearances of any kind have mustered up a total of just 25 minutes, with his other seven outings having come in the different cup competitions have featured in.

He was treated with a run out during Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round clash against Plymouth Argyle, but playing a bit part role in Slot’s side is unlikely to satisfy the Euro 2020 winner.

A transfer didn’t materialise with Chiesa set to stick around for the remainder of the season, however, if minutes don’t improve, talk of an exit is likely to follow him into the summer transfer window.

Considering the Premier League side only spent £12.5m on Chiesa’s services, it might make it easier for them to cut ties and if FSG are savvy enough, they might even be able to work his departure into one of their other summer deals.

Perhaps a deal for German ace Wirtz, who is currently valued at £110m by Transfermarkt and , could include Chiesa as a sweetener.

It might help convince former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso to part ways with the midfield maestro, who is contracted to the Leverkusen-based outfit until June 2027.

What’s more, given and Bayern Munich are said to be leading the way in the race for Wirtz, are already on the back foot, as they likely wouldn’t be able to compete with the finances the two mega-rich clubs could offer.

It might take some convincing on Leverkusen’s part, but if they can persuade the Bundesliga outfit to part ways with Wirtz, including Chiesa in the move could make sense for all parties.
