Mattress and bedding stains may be inevitable, with fake tan often being a key culprit behind unsightly marks.

But the need for a sun-kissed complexion does not mean you’re doomed to forever have stained bedding – and there are affordable methods for removing these.

Owner of , Adeel ul-Haq, has revealed his secret for banishing any fake tan marks from your bed.

And while there are numerous cleaning products out there that promise to remove stains from mattresses and bed linens, these can often prove expensive and even end up leaving a chemical smell that remains long after the stain has gone.

Adeel explaied: “Mattress and bedding stain removal products can cost £20+ and often leave a nasty chemical smell behind too, this isn’t ideal for your sleep, especially when there are products you can use in your home that won’t leave the smell and are far cheaper too.”

While fake tan is certainly safer than using a tanning bed, one downside is that it can often rub off in your sleep, leaving nasty and smelly fake tan stains on your bedding or mattress.

Fake tan often contains DHA, an amino acid that reacts with your skin to give you that darker, sun-kissed appearance. However, when DHA reacts with oxygen and your skin oils, it can often leave behind stains – whether on your bedding, clothes, or towels.

There is some good news for users of fake tan though, as these stains can be easily removed with some staple products that you may likely already have in your home.

Rather than purchasing expensive products to clean your bedding, Adeel advises opting to use white vinegar and baking soda instead.

He explained: “Sprinkle the baking soda over your fake tan stain and it will absorb the oils, then mix white vinegar and water in an equal amount and spray over the top, it will start to fizz.

“The baking soda is a mild alkaline substance that breaks down the oils from the fake tan and will lift the stain, the white vinegar helps loosen the dirt and dissolve any residue left over.  This chemical reaction neutralises odours too.”
