Bacon will be crispier and tastier if you avoid cooking it in a oily frying pan

Nothing is better than a roll filled with sizzling bacon on a weekend morning, and there is a much easier way to cook this delicious breakfast staple rather than frying it.

Bacon is a fun Sunday breakfast treat but the biggest downside to cooking it is the greasy frying pan you have to wash afterwards which can take ages to scrub to get it clean.

However, Lisa Bryan, a cook and founder of , has urged people to ditch their frying pans as she says cooking bacon in the oven leaves it crispier and will less clean up.

Lisa said: “Cooking bacon in the oven creates perfectly crispy, delicious bacon.

“It’s also super easy, creates less mess than cooking it on the stovetop and allows you to multitask in the kitchen. If you’ve never baked bacon, give it a try!”

Why should you try cooking bacon in the oven?

It may seem simple, but cooking bacon in the oven not only leads to less cleaning but actually makes the meat much tastier.

The white fat on bacon renders much quicker than the pink meat so when it is fried in oil you are often left with the white exterior charred while the pink middle is underdone and chewy.

Lisa said: “Cooking bacon on the stove creates splatters all over your stove top and produces hot spots on the pan.

“This means certain pieces of bacon may cook faster than others. And it’s why you might have some bacon slices that accidentally charcoal a bit too much while other slices are still undercooked.”

Cooking bacon in the oven means the heat is evenly distributed so that the whole strip will be crispy, plus will not be soggy from being soaked in oil.

Using the oven also means you can cook breakfast without constantly keeping an eye on the bacon so you can relax rather than worrying about it burning.

How to properly cook bacon in the oven

All you need to do is first preheat the oven to 200C. Then, line a large baking tray with baking paper. Place the bacon side-by-side on the tray and make sure none of the strips overlap with each other.

Place in the oven and cook for 10 to 20 minutes until the bacon is as crispy as you would like it.

Lisa said: “Please note that all ovens cook slightly differently. It’s best to keep an eye on the bacon past the 10-minute mark so you can ensure it’s cooked to your personal preference.”

Remove from the oven and place on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess grease.

Your bacon is then ready to serve, either on a roll with butter or as part of a fry-up.

To clean the bacon grease, simply peel the baking paper off the tray and throw it in the bin.
