A “chilled” seaside town in the North East of the UK has been dubbed as the “coolest”. With quaint beaches, ample scenery and a warm welcoming party, it’s no wonder the town earned its label.
Tynemouth made its way comfortably onto Time Out’s list of 20 best seaside destinations in the UK. It scored points for its chilled vibes with the note from a critique saying: “Britain’s coolest seaside town? Could be.”
The magazine author was not short on praise for the town, saying how it manages to “perfectly merge artisan city cool and wholesome coastal pursuits into the perfect salty, seaside package”.

In the summertime, locals and tourists can be found lounging across the popular Long Sands beach and King Edward’s Bay with the wintertime offering blustery coastal walks when the temperature starts to drop.
Alongside its beautiful golden beaches, Tynemouth is home to both historic and modern stunning architecture with grand houses looking out across the North sea. The historic Tynemouth Priory and Castle casts a dramatic silhouette against the sky which can be found above King Edward Bay’s on the cliff.
The town centre hosts a plethora of cafes, restaurants and bars to relax and unwind after a long day exploring.
Many famous chefs and food critics have written about their love for the famous Riley’s Fish Shack, known for its delicious sea food freshly caught, such as Michel Roux Jr, Rick Stein and Jay Rayner.

Tynemouth Priory has made a name for itself being the proud home of the Mouth of the Tyne festival each year.
Globally recognised artists have been spotted performing here such as Sam Fender and Andrew Cushin, with other major names like Rick Astley, The Proclaimers, Jack Savoretti and Heather Small.
Music isn’t the only industry putting the town on the map as the cast of Vera spent a lot of time there while filming the hit ITV show. Strictly stars have also been seen heading to the coast for a dip in the sea.
