boss held a post-match training session for his players after their 2-1 win over at Old Trafford on Friday night.

The Portuguese tactician watched his side after Harry Maguire scored with a controversial header.

The result proved to be the perfect response to their previous home game, which saw them suffer a morale-damaging 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace last Sunday.

But with five wins from their last seven games in all competitions, there are small signs of improvement being made by the United squad after a wretched start to the campaign.

Amorim is in no mood to settle just yet, however. The 40-year-old took advantage of the opportunity to work with his players on the pitch again, despite some stars playing the full 90 minutes.

As the clock ticked towards 11pm on Friday night, his players were put through their paces with a full training session nearly an hour after the game had finished.

and Toby Collyer appeared to be amongst the group, while United’s reserve goalkeepers were given a chance to demonstrate their reflexes with a number of exercises.

The United boss has had limited time to imprint his ideas on the squad due to their busy match schedule. But with eight days until their next fixture against , he wasted no time in putting out the cones on the pitch.

Amorim’s hardline methods to turn around United’s form have not been popular with everyone, with Marcus Rashford falling foul of his standards for training performances.

The 27-year-old joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season after Amorim claimed he couldn’t get the forward to follow his ideas.

If nothing else, it highlights the importance the former Sporting boss has placed on training in terms of winning a place in his starting lineup.

Centre-back Leny Yoro recently disclosed that Amorim would come down hard on anyone he perceives to be lagging behind during training sessions.

Rashford has already experienced his tough-love approach, having been sidelined from the first-team squad due to what Amorim deemed sub-par performances and insufficient effort.

And Yoro admitted that United’s players have been forced to get with the programme to ensure they do not follow Rashford in being frozen out.

“In training, it’s really, I would say, hard. But it’s important. We have a lot of training, and for him, training is really important too because you play the game like you train,” Yoro said on the ‘Rio Ferdinand Presents’ podcast.

“The most important thing is to be really good in training. If you are not working, if you are lazy in training, he won’t like you – he’ll kill you! It’s normal because you play like you train.”
