With so many option, holidaymakers don’t always have to fork out a fortune to enjoy a jam-packed city break full of fun and adventure.
And if you’re in search of a city where you don’t have to break the bank, you’re in luck. This underrated gem has been revealed as the most in the whole of Europe.
Every year, Travel Money compare the costs of short breaks in cities across the UK both overall and things such as acommodation, meals and cultural attractions.

And according to their findings Lithuania’s capital city, is the “best-value destination” for UK holidaymakers.
The stunning city known for its baroque architecture welcomed over 1 million visitors in 2023, significantly less than other popular capital cities such as Prague which welcomed more than seven million tourists.
The Post Office’s City Costs Barometer calculates the overall cost of a trip based on 12 things including a range of drinks, an evening meal for two, with a bottle of house wine, two nights’ three-star weekend accommodation, sightseeing and city transport.
The total cost for a trip for two to Vilnius came up to £236.51, so on average you’re looking at £118 per person.

Accomodation costs are usually what sends the price of a city break soaring, and after significant increases seen in 2023, it can feel like more of a burden.
However, Vilnius offers the cheapest accommodation at just £131 in comparison to the likes of Amsterdam which is a hefty £462.
Of course, with a city break, the whole point is to actually go out explore, so why not opt for a sightseeing city tour bus which the report revealed costs £9.73, or a visit to a “top art gallery” for just £7.07.
Food is also super important. For just £59.70 you can get a 3-course evening meal for two which also includes a house wine.
Prefer a beer? Well a 330ml bottle of beer or lager will only set you back £2.77.
So as you begin to plan your next city escape why not give Vilnius a try, you’ll be away from all the crowds of tourists and, most importantly, you’ll be saving yourself some cash whilst enjoying all that the city has to offer.
