Known for his terrific goal-kicking ability, Owen Farrell is a popular English rugby player who has scored over 1,200 points while representing England in over 100 tests. The 33-year-old made his England debut in 2012 and has gone on to become their all-time highest points scorer.

However, fans won’t be able to watch him in action for the Red Roses in the ongoing Six Nations Championship as the fly-half is no longer eligible to play for England after signing for French side Racing 92 last year. Rugby Football Union (RFU) rules prevent players based overseas from representing England.

As far as his club career is concerned, Farrell made his professional debut in 2008 with the Saracens. At the time, he held the record of youngest player ever to appear in English professional rugby, making his first appearance just 11 days after his 17th birthday.

Farrell was with the Saracens for 16 years, from 2008 to 2024, and made 254 appearances before joining the Top 14 side.

Owen Farrell salary and net worth

Having played professionally since 2008, it is safe to assume that he has done well for himself financially. Unsurprisingly, Farrell is currently one of the highest-earning players in the sport.

As per reports, he is making more than £1m per year with Racing 92. While there is no official confirmation about his net worth, reports suggest that the former England captain is worth roughly £4m as of 2025.

Interestingly, Farrell makes sure to celebrate every point he scores by linking his index fingers together to make a ‘JJ’ sign. The symbol represents ‘Joining Jack’ salute. Joining Jack is a charity dedicated to the needs of people suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Owen Farrell’s life beyond rugby

Farrell and his wife Georgie had a long-standing relationship before they decided to tie the knot in July 2018. The ceremony was attended by several of Farrell’s teammates. The couple have chosen to remain private about their family life and Georgie even keeps her social media profiles locked.

However, the LinkedIn profile of Georgie suggests that she works as an event manager. She is regularly seen cheering on her husband from the stands. The couple are blessed with two sons.

His father, Andy Farrell, is Ireland’s current head coach. He had played both rugby union and rugby league for England. The 33-year-old has two sisters, Elleshia and Gracie, and one younger brother, Gabriel.

Social media abuse post 2023 World Cup and subsequent move to France

Farrell announced he would step back from international rugby to prioritise his mental health and family well-being. Despite being a leader on the field, Farrell faced intense social media abuse during the 2023 Rugby World Cup after his team’s loss against South Africa in the semi-final, which eventually led to his decision.

Despite deleting his social media accounts during the tournament, the criticism still affected him. Speaking ahead of his Saracens match against Harlequins in March 2024, Farrell explained that while he tries to avoid online negativity, it’s hard to escape at times.

“I don’t really try to look too much into it and obviously it’s hard to get away from nowadays,” Farrell said. “You kind of feel it at times, but you’d be wrong to entertain it too much because anyone’s opinion I respect or anyone who I think of or anyone I know, to be honest, I wouldn’t see them going into comments sections and writing stuff.”

Eventually, he ended up leaving England and joining Racing 92, a move that effectively ensured he couldn’t play for England at least until the summer of 2026. Farrell’s focus now is on his club career in France, where he will hope to enjoy the sport to the fullest.
