Armed police were scrambled to a road in Tilehurst, Reading after reports of “a suspicious person in possession of bladed items” minutes from a primary school, Thames Valley Police has confirmed.
The force said: “Armed officers swiftly attended Corwen Road, Tilehurst, and searches and investigations have been carried out.
“The report remains as unconfirmed at this time. We continue to investigate the report and are working to establish the circumstances of this incident.” Thames Valley Police is yet to confirm whether the armed officers remain on the scene, as their investigation continues.
Moorlands Primary School has not been evacuated according to its office, which added there has not been any incident on-site.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said:
“We received an unconfirmed report of a suspicious person in possession of bladed items at around 12.40pm this afternoon (7/2).
“Armed officers swiftly attended Corwen Road, Tilehurst, and searches and investigations have been carried out.
“The report remains as unconfirmed at this time.
“We continue to investigate the report and are working to establish the circumstances of this incident.
“We appreciate the concern this incident may cause but do not believe there to be a wider threat to the community at this time.
“We would appeal to anyone who with information or who was in the area this afternoon and may have footage to contact the force.
“You can leave any information via our website or call 101, quoting investigation number 887 of today’s date (7/2).”
