B.C. Place is a multi-purpose stadium located on the north side of False Creek. When it opened on June 19, 1983, it featured the world’s largest air-supported dome roof. Following the 2010 Winter Olympics, this feature was replaced with the world’s largest retractable roof supported by cables.

The facility is the largest of its kind in the province and hosts two major league professional sports franchises, as well as other athletic and live entertainment events.

It is owned by the Province of British Columbia and operated by B.C. Pavilion Corporation (PavCo).

B.C. Place is also about 37 minutes away from Vancouver International Airport via Canada Line and 45 minutes from Surrey City Centre via the Expo Line.

If driving is preferred, there is ample parking throughout the Crosstown/Stadium district. Pay parking for events is typically in effect, so expect increased rates around live event dates.

Vancouver Whitecaps play first sporting event

When: June 20, 1983

The original Vancouver Whitecaps played the first regular season match against the Seattle Sounders, winning the game 2-1. The team would fold in 1984 before returning, initially as the Vancouver 86ers, in 1991.

The 71st Grey Cup: Toronto Argonauts 18, B.C. Lions 17

When: Nov. 27, 1983

The Canadian Football League’s championship game was held in the arena where the Toronto Argonauts downed the home team by 1 point in a taught final. It was the first Grey Cup victory for Toronto in 31 years.

The Jacksons Victory Tour

When: Nov. 16-18, 1984

Snow and ice build up causes tear in the inflatable roof

When: Jan. 5, 2007

After a winter storm, snow and ice buildup tore apart a panel in the inflatable roof and it rapidly deflated. Workers rushed to repair the panel in time to inflate the roof for the opening of the 2007 CFL season.
