Boris Becker had to undergo knee surgery after he slipped and tore his meniscus on Celebrity Bear Hunt. The former world tennis champion is appearing on the new show alongside Shirley Ballas, Steph McGovern, and Mel B.
Speaking to , the 57-year-old opened up about his most recent television opportunity, despite having turned down the likes of Big Brother and I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! in the past.
When asked why he signed up for this show, he explained: “For me, it was about being out of my comfort zone. I’ve never slept in a room with ten strangers; I’ve never been surrounded by snakes, crocodiles. And at my age I still want to challenge myself, want to do things that I haven’t done before.”
The sports star also revealed that he suffered a grueling knee injury early in the competition. This isn’t the first time that Boris has undergone surgery, as he’s had two new hips, and since 2017, he’s had six screws in his right ankle.
Despite his Celebrity Bear Hunt injury, Boris said it didn’t bother him: “I am 57. I’ve got a lot of life experience and I’ve weathered a lot of storms, so I can relate to many things.

“I’m not surprised by anything anymore. And that became my role. I think all of them were comfortable speaking to me. Because for most situations I have… not necessarily solutions, but I have ideas.”
Boris won his first Wimbledon Men’s title at the age of 17. He retired from the sport at 32 and then spent three years coaching .
Celebrity Bear Hunt is set in the jungle in Costa Rica, and the confirmed lineup of celebrities includes Joe Thomas, Lottie Moss, Mel B, Shirley Ballas, Steph McGovern, and Una Healy.

The 12 celebrities must participate in a series of challenges and avoid being caught by survival expert Bear Grylls. If they are caught during the competition, they are immediately eliminated.
Boris also told that he has kept in touch with his camp mates after the show wrapped up. He said: “We have stayed in touch. That’s another beautiful thing, we really bonded. I mean you had 12 different personalities and characters in a confined space over two, three weeks.
“There’s no technology, no phone or television, no newspapers so you ultimately have to speak to one another and you have to open up because there’s nothing else to do. So, we did that and I think I’ve found 11 new friends now.”
