A woman got a big shock after she bought some vegetables from . The shopper picked up the bag of baby parsnips from the not noticing anything out of the ordinary.
It was only when she got home and went to open the bag that she saw the issue. As she went to cut the bag open, she saw something moving inside.
She took a video revealing that there was a toad inside her bag of . Her son’s girlfriend, Jade, posted the video on with the caption: “Not my boyfriend’s mum finding a toad in her Sainsbury’s parsnips.They haven’t even responded to her. The way I would’ve just cried”.
In the clip, the woman said: “I went to cut the bag but something moved and inside I found, oh my God it’s moving, a toad. It’s very much alive. There is an air hole in the bag so it’s managed to stay alive. It must have been very cold in the fridge. Can you please let us know what we should do next?”

The video has amassed an impressive 1.4 million views, 45,600 likes and more than 1,200 comments. One person humorously asked: “Did you buy on self checkout cos surely would have been unexpected item in bagging area.”
Another user gave an idea about what to do with the toad, as they said: “As long as they’re UK parsnips just let him out!” A third, straight-talking, user commented: “Just let it out in the garden, dispose of the parsnips and get on with your evening.”
A fourth user poked fun at something written on the packaging of the parsnips bag: “‘Taste the difference. You get what you paid for.” Another echoed: “Sainsbury’s ‘taste the difference’ brand.”
A different shopper joked: “Just checked mine and no frog, so disappointed! Where’s my frog!”
A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said: “We’ve reached out to the customer to say how sorry we are for her experience and arranged a refund as well as a gesture of goodwill. We have strict quality control measures in place to prevent this type of thing from happening and are investigating this rare experience with our supplier.”
Jade has posted another video with an update of what her boyfriend’s mum has done with the toad. In the video, the woman can be seen handing the toad over to Columbines Wildlife Care, a not for profit wildlife care facility in Kent, and she revealed to them that the toad had been in her fridge for five days.
The caption of this video reads: “Toad update from my boyfriend’s mum. We can’t believe this toad has reached so many of you! It’s been named Nippy and is now being professionally taken care of at Columbines Wildlife Care. He’ll then be released back into the wild in the spring!”
