Drew Barrymore may have had an awkward encounter with Martha Stewart on her talk show last November, but she insists the lifestyle guru actually likes her ― really!
The interview went viral after Stewart shooed away Barrymore, who was getting a little too close for comfort during the interview.
While stroking Stewart’s arm, Barrymore had asked the media mogul if there was anything that made her feel “soft and gooey,” and added, “When you’re treated like a lady?”
Stewart responded by pushing Barrymore away and declaring that the talk show host was the “wrong gender!”
“I know, I know,” Barrymore responded with a sigh before falling back on the sofa in a dejected manner.
Although people on social media suspected that Stewart didn’t like Barrymore’s intimate style of interviewing, the host disagreed when Bravo’s Andy Cohen asked about the incident on Wednesday night.
“You know what? I think she was just teasing,” Barrymore said before adding, “Actually, I’ve never been able to say this before with confidence, but I can now: I think Martha really does like me.”
That wasn’t always the case, she admitted.
“Because when I first was getting to know her, I was like, ‘I don’t think she likes me,’ but I think I broke through … She doesn’t dislike me!” Barrymore asserted.
Although Barrymore previously told Entertainment Tonight that she would “try to practice physical distance,” she admitted to Cohen that it’s been a work in progress.
When he asked her how those efforts were going, she said point-blank: “Not good!” adding that she “can’t control it.”
