Luke Littler could bank £30k Premier League bonus prize thanks to new incentive

will get his hands on a custom-made set of solid gold if he hits a nine-darter during this year’s campaign. The bonus prize, which is worth a whopping £30,000, will be awarded to any player competing in the competition every time they hit a perfect score.

Littler entered the for the first time last year after storming to the final of the during his maiden appearance as a 16-year-old.

The Darts season gets underway tonight (Thursday) in Belfast as eight of the best players in the world compete for honours over 16 nights.

The invitational event is played across the UK, Ireland and Europe, and culminates in the Play-Offs at the O2 Arena in London at the end of May.

The winner will be crowned on Play-Off night and will be handed a cool £275,000, with £10,000 up for grabs on every other night of the tournament.

The solid gold darts are being provided by tournament sponsors BetMGM and have been made by Humphrey and Hawkins.

And PDC head of media Dave Allen explained: “This is a great initiative by BetMGM, which adds even more interest to what is already a fantastically entertaining tournament.

“No tournament has featured more nine-darters than the BetMGM and this added incentive has certainly got the players talking ahead of the new season kicking off in Belfast.”

Littler hit a nine-darter during the 11th leg of his showdown with Humphries in last year’s final. It was the 16th time a player has achieved the feat during the ’s 20-year history.

The Nuke is the favourite to win the tournament this year ahead of Humphries and three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen.

And on Wednesday, the 18-year-old said: “Ever since last year, I know these players are going to have to pull it out of the bag to beat me. This is probably the biggest one I’m going to defend all round until it comes to the World Championship.

“I have to get the top four, but I want to get that win tomorrow night. If it doesn’t happen, then I’ll reset but I’m hoping for a quick start tomorrow just like the world final.

“Throughout the weeks [last year] I was always fourth or fifth, and I went on the run I went on with more wins.”
