Amazon Prime has quietly added a new action thriller title that has been dubbed ‘Last of Us with a sprinkle of Alien’.
Elevation is the latest title to join the streaming giant’s platform this year, available from today (February 6).
The service has been bolstering its catalogue with some of the highest-rated films of recent years, including Civil War and horror flick Longlegs, as well as original titles like the comedy You’re Cordially Invited, starring Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.
Amidst this influx of new content, Elevation stands out, featuring Anthony Mackie, star of this year’s big Marvel release, in which he takes over as Captain America in the film subtitled Brave New World.
In Elevation, Mackie plays one of a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world, hiding in the Rocky Mountains from giant insect-like creatures that have invaded Earth but can’t survive above 8,000 feet.

However, when one of them requires life-saving supplies, they risk everything to venture into the danger zone, reports .
The film was directed by George Nolfi, known for his work on action hits such as Ocean’s Twelve, The Bourne Ultimatum and Need for Speed. It had a limited release in US cinemas at the end of last year and hit UK screens at the start of 2025.
Despite a lukewarm reception from critics, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 55%, it has found favour with fans. One viewer likened it to “Last Of Us meets A Quiet Place with a sprinkle of Alien.”

Comparisons have also been drawn with another Amazon Prime release, The Tomorrow War, which starred Marvel actor Chris Pratt.
One fan shared their thoughts online, saying: “Very entertaining watch, rarely a dull moment and exactly what I want from a sci-fi action thriller. Only wish they had more budget for actual horses rather than CGI ones and a final epic shootout with the monsters.”
Elevation was made on a relatively small budget for its genre, but some fans speculate this could be with an eye to potential sequels with bigger budgets. Viewers are advised to stick around after the credits roll.
One person commented: “Man, watched this today… Wait for the post credits.”
Another viewer enthused: “I really enjoyed this movie. It should be a series. It was kind of rushed, squeezing in bits of background story here and there. But all in all it was pretty good. Questionable ending, But good on suspense and great acting.”
Meanwhile, a fan shared their anticipation, saying: “I really really liked this movie and I am pretty excited for a part two.”
Elevation is streaming on Amazon Prime.
