A huge blaze has ripped through a building in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, with firefighters battling to put out the huge flames.

Fire crews were called to Sessions House in Market Place this evening. The former courthouse is now a restaurant.

An eyewitness said the blaze had spread up to the roof of the building and had caused it to collapse, according to the .

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said: “We are advising all residents in the area keep doors and windows shut due to the amount of smoke.”

The fire broke out at Sessions House in Sleaford.

According to The Sleaford and District Civic Trust, the building dates back to 1755.

The building ceased to be a court in 2008. It was then converted into a restaurant and offices.

Locals speak about fire

A worker at nearby Pizza Delight confirmed the whole building had been closed and “the area has been closed by police officers”.

A woman who works at the Solo Bistro Bar Hotel said: “The roof collapsed. I’ve seen five or six fire engines and I think there is more around.

“There is police presence. They’ve had to cordon off all the market place and traffic isn’t allowed. There’s lots of people being nosey and obviously lots of people taking photos and videos.”

A woman working at Cece’s Bar and Grill added: “It’s been very bad. I’ve seen pictures of it online but I’ve been working, but it is very bad. They’ve put most of it out now.”

Fire breaks out at Sleaford restaurant

A fire has broken out at Sessions House in Sleaford tonight. The roof of the restaurant has reportedly collapsed.

Emergency services are on the scene with locals advised to keep windows shut.
