has been hit with backlash after she branded UK supporters of “eejits”.
The TV presenter, 64, quoted a headline on her X page, writing: “Trump says UK ‘out of line’ and threatens to expand tariffs to Europe as trade war fears grow.”
This was a comment made by the US president, who has indicated that he plans to implement tariffs on the EU but has been less committed to applying them to the UK.
Carol added: “Right wing Trump fans here seem to want the UK to fail and to damage their own people …..eejits….”
The social media post was inundated with criticism as the former Countdown presenter was called out for the remark.
One wrote: “No Carol. People are now aware of the failing country that the UK has already become under successive governments. Said governments have failed and are actively damaging their own people. The look over their tactic isn’t going to work. Our problems are here, that’s where we focus.”

A second declared: “Trump is doing what is best for the American people, that’s all. And in the UK, we are stuck with Starmer, who clearly hates the British working and middle classes.
“Starmer can say all the pretty words under the sun (in his strange “completely devoid of human emotion” voice) – in the end, his actions speak louder. Nobody wants to see Britain fail. Nobody. But we are being forced to watch it all unfold before us, thanks to that idiot and his merry band of morons. Sad days.”
A third disagreed with the reports, commenting: “I’m not sure he’s gonna impose tariffs on the UK. He said he thought he could do a deal. Although I suspect whatever the deal would be would be seen as worse off.”
Another fumed: “We don’t have to worry about damage to the british, Starmer got that covered,” as a fifth agreed. “The UK is already failing. They don’t need any help from Trump to achieve that.”

Speaking during Prime Minister’s Questions, Mr Starmer said: “I have from the last few weeks, two images fixed in my mind: the first is the image of Emily Damari reunited with her mother, which I found extremely moving.
“The second was the image of thousands of Palestinians walking – literally walking – through the rubble to try to find their homes and their communities in Gaza.
“They must be allowed home. They must be allowed to rebuild, and we should be with them in that rebuild on the way to a two-state solution.”
