Luca Marinelli plays the infamous Benito Mussolini in this eight-part series, charting the leader’s ascent to power during the 1920s.
In the original teaser trailer, a voice thunders: “My name is Mussolini Benito Amilcare Andrea, and my time has come.”
Viewers are now treated to an extended peek into Mussolini’s thirst for power and his journey to becoming the wartime leader of fascist Italy.
The drama, delivered in Italian, also probes into Mussolini’s relationships with his wife, Rachele, played by Benedetta Cimatti, and his mistress, Margherita Sarfatti, portrayed by Barbara Chichiarelli.

The historical backdrop of the series is profoundly significant, as it explores the tumultuous period of Italian Fascism. Benito Mussolini, the architect of this extremist regime, rose to power in 1922 after being appointed prime minister.
His rule introduced the term “fascism” to describe his political ideology, which emphasised authoritarianism, nationalism, and the suppression of dissent.
The regime lasted for 26 years and ended with Mussolini’s assassination in 1945. This pivotal moment signified the collapse of Italian Fascism and the broader implications for Europe following
Dubbed “Il Duce” (the Leader), Benito Mussolini ruled Italy as the absolute ruler, even scrapping local elections and reinstituting the death penalty for political offenders.
Mussolini’s most significant action was undoubtedly cementing an alliance with during the Second World War.
Yet, his iron reign crumbled when the Grand Council, comprising members of his party, ousted him in 1943. As Nazi Germany lost its stronghold over Northern Italy, Mussolini made a desperate bid to escape to Switzerland with his mistress.
Donning German military garb, Mussolini’s disguise failed to conceal his identity, and he met his fate at the hands of Italian Communist partisans, who executed him in April 1945.
